33 couples got married in Nyingchi Prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region on August 8, the day marks the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Sangmo, a staff member for the Nyingchi Civil Affairs Bureau who is in charge of marriage registration, went to work an hour earlier than usual. However, when she arrived in the office, many couples had been waiting there for a long time.
The new couples sent Sangmo candies to show their thanks after they got marriage certificates. The reporter saw that Sangmo's desk had piled with candies in a short time.
"In fact, many lovers have called us for marriage arrangements on August 8 since May. But I still didn't expect that marriage registration on this scale today," said Sangmo, "I feel happy for them and they are so lucky to get married on the day for the opening ceremony of the Olympics."
"We would like to choose the day for marriage so that we can share the joy (of) the auspicious Olympics," said Wang Henliang, a teacher from Tibet Agriculture and Husbandry Academy.
