Nomadic Tibetans in Gannan to settle down permenently

China's Central Government will spend 321 million yuan during the 2008-2009 period building permanent brick houses for the nomadic in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southern Gansu Province in northwestern China.

The first phrase of this housing project costing 80 million yuan is expected to be completed later this year and will help settle 3,140 households.

The second phrase with financing of 241 million yuan is designed to settle down another 9,488 households.

Meanwhile, the prefectural government will respect the Tibetan people's traditional lifestyle of being nomads while quickening ecological migration.

Effective measures will be taken such as cutting pastures' livestock-supporting capacity, increasing housing subsidies and formulating policies to help the poor people and maintain social security.
