Located on the fringe of northern Tibet, Gacuo Village in Co Nyi Area is a vast but sparsely populated area with frequent natural disasters. Collective management system on pasture is the only production method practicable.
In 2005, the China National Petroleum Corporation provided financial assistance to Gacuo Village, thus bringing great changes to this remote village. Up till now, 90 households have moved into new affordable houses equipped with solar lighting instead of butter lamp, which was used for generations. Electricity, road access, and telephone, radio and TV links are provided.
In 2008, the net per capita income reached 5,540 yuan in Gacuo Village.
