Garden-city draws increasing tourists

Lhasa of Tibet has been drawing an increasing number of tourists from home and abroad as a result of obviously improved environment.

In recent years, Lhasa has been quickened up constructing municipal infrastructure, improving management system and raising people's consciousness of environmental protection.

Droje Cizhu, mayor of Lhasa emphasized when talking about the urban environmental arrangement that "to optimize the environment, improve people's livelihood, upgrade the tourism image and develop the city brand" are goals they are always keeping on.

Lhasa has allocated 536 million yuan to build 40 street parks with an added greenbelt area of 1.18 million sq.m. The urban afforestation coverage reaches 30% with the per capita green area standing at 9.99 sq.m. Lhasa has been turned into a garden-like tourism city.

Garbage generated in Lhasa can be cleaned up every day. 60% of the domestic refuse are separately collected, the innocent treatment rate reaches 85.1 percent and 90% of the urban areas are smoke/dust control zones.

To date, in Lhasa there are 26 nature reserves and eco-zones and 12 protection districts of drinking water. Besides, 4 drinking water treatment plants meet the standard of water quality monitoring.
