Most part of Tibet Autonomous Region has welcomed spring snow and rain since March 14 night influenced by the cold snap in northern areas, alleviating the drought early this year.
Agricultural areas in Lhasa, Lhoka and Xigaze met rainy days while areas along the Yarlung Zangbo River met heavy snow, the heaviest snowfall with widest coverage since last November.
Snow has piled up to seven to eight centimeters in the Nylam and Pagri of Xigaze.
The spring snow increases the soil moisture, which conduces to the growth of winter wheat and the spring ploughing along the Yarlung Zangbo River, according to Liu Yilan, deputy senior engineer of Tibet Meteorological Research Center on Zoology and Agriculture.
With the rainy and snowy days, the temperature in Lhasa will drop by 4℃ with the lowest temperature hitting 3℃ in next two days. Nyingchi, southern Xigaze and Lhoka will see snow or rain in the next few days, the weather expert said.
